This is a photo I took of Jeff Lovett, a masters candidate at Ohio University, at Gavin Power Plant. Jeff's work focuses on critical regionalism, and the structures of culture, industry and ecology that entangle the communities of southeast Ohio. As Jeff and many other's work point out, the growth of the coal industry has rarely been synonymous with positive growth for the human and natural environments in the surrounding areas.

Today I took Maggie to the vet.

I really don't like the mall. When im inside one all I can think about is being outside.

A few photos of my cousins in Maine. Also a restaurant that backed into an airfield.

Soul of Athens

This spring I spent most of my time working on stories for this years Soul of Athens site. My edition Thrive just recently launched. Soul of Athens is an award-winning online multimedia publication. It is a project completed in just 10 weeks every spring. Its focus is to tell the stories of the unique community of southeast Ohio.

I created two stories for this years addition. The first Keeping Their History Alive was about colonial history enthusiasts in the Athens area. This focused on a group of individuals dedicated to preserving and engaging in the rich history of this area through living history events.

The other story was about what renowned herabalist, Paul Strauss, calls The Green Spark. A thriving community built around protecting and using the diverse herbal and medicinal plants found in southeast Ohio.
